BLU - RAY Disc

One more new technologies come into the world of optical discs, the DVD, Blu-Ray now turn to join the digital world graced strouge disc-shaped data.

Blu-Ray or also known as Blu Ray Disc optical disc format is just made for recording media, re-writing, video playback high definition (HD) and large-capacity data storage.

The format was developed by the Blu-Ray Disc Association (BDA), a group that consists of several electronics manufacturers, PC and recording media such as Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp , Sony, TDK and Thomson.

Blu-Ray capable of accommodating five times more than the DVD format, which is 25 GB for single layer version and 50 GB on dual layer version. This large capacity pamper us in maximizing the video recording and high quality sound or is known as High Definition (HD).

Blu-Ray use blue-violet laser, optical disc technology is different from DVD, DVD + R, DVD + RW, and DVD-RAM that uses infra red laser beam to write and read data. This is also the basis of the use of a Blu-Ray.

Although different types of laser, Blu-Ray equipment is compatible with CDs and DVDs, using compatible optical BD / DVD / CD.

The advantage of using a blue laser (450nm), which has a shorter wavelength than the red laser (650nm) so that the laser focus point even with high precision. In addition, the deposit becomes more compact data so it can accommodate more though piringannya same size as a CD / DVD.

About speed, based on specifications, 1x equal to 36Mbps. However, for movies, BD-ROM specification data transfer speed of at least 54Mbps to meet the standard. The specifications are currently available up to version 2x (72Mbps).

Although the recording medium itself still has a limited speed, but Blu-Ray limitation factor actually located on the Hardware.

If it is assumed a maximum speed of 10 000 RPM rotation, speed of 12x at the outside diameter should be capable of reaching 480Mbps. This is the plan of Blu-Ray Disc Association (BDA) to further increase the speed to 8x (288Mbps).
